One of the main reasons I’m in CO now is because I'm in a play!

I was hired to be in BIG LOVE by Charles Mee with the theater company I used to work with in the picturesque town of Ridgway, CO. It’s a great show - about love, and the ass-backwards ways people try to get it.

How did I go from being a professional actress to a Fertility Awareness Educator?

During my years of acting training I had intense social anxiety. I was chronically constipated. I had repeated bouts of insomnia. Maybe it was the stress of auditioning in a competitive environment. Maybe it was my birth control. Maybe both. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

But I know that I was on NuvaRing from age 16 to 21, and I did not feel great.

And I know that once I got off birth control, I stopped feeling so anxious. I started sleeping and pooping more regularly. I stopped being so concerned about what others thought of me.

And - for the first time since starting hormones - I was able to hear my intuition. I could tune into myself and my own higher knowing. And I was finally able to admit to myself that being a professional actresses wasn’t what I really wanted.

Soon after, I discovered Fertility Awareness, and everything clicked into place. I learned that regular ovulation was a healthy, natural function that BC interrupted, and I understood why I had felt so crummy and confused while using it.

I learned how to tend to my hormones, chart my cycle and celebrate the wisdom of my body. I learned to prioritize my pleasure and stop people-pleasing - and now I participate in theater when it feels good!

If you’ve gotten off BC, what has changed for you?

We need access to BC. BC is definitely the right choice for some. Just as Fertility Awareness is the right choice for some. Bodily autonomy means that we can exercise the power of choice.

And - when you have the right information you can make the empowered choice for yourself.
